Steps to brush your teeth properly

Although these steps or procedure of proper brushing your teeth may not be lengthy, but it shouldn’t be a speedy process either. Since teeth are in 3 dimensional, ensure that you take your time and brush all the surfaces of the teeth and the gum line. As this is of great significance, the steps to brush your teeth properly are listed below.

  1. Hold your toothbrush at an angle of 45° and start brushing your teeth from the back or last teeth (wisdom teeth), on the outside (the area towards the cheeks or towards the facial teeth). The outer column of the bristles must be the ones cleaning the teeth. Brush for few seconds on the gum line with back and forth short strokes, later move to the other tooth. Concentrate to brush only one tooth at a time. Continue this process until you finish all the teeth till the other end of the mouth.
  2. Now hold the brush parallel to the outer teeth surface where you ended. The targeted part is the whole tooth surface (the outer surface towards the cheeks), so brush with short strokes back and forth for a few seconds targeting only one tooth at a time and moving to the next. Continue the procedure till you reach the other side of the mouth.
  3. Repeat the procedure of the above two steps for the inner side of the teeth.
  4. In the next step, the target will be on the biting area of the teeth. Brush the biting surface of the teeth by holding the toothbrush against them. Brush with short strokes with back and forth movements on the surface of molars until you reach the facial teeth (front teeth to incisors).
  5. Next, hold the brush horizontally on the inner side of the mouth against the incisors, while you brush up and down. Continue to brush towards the other part of the mouth to the molars and also the biting surface of incisors and molars.
  6. Repeat the same procedure on the lower teeth.

The above steps will help you to properly brush your teeth. One can follow these steps as they help avoid periodontal work and gum disease. Brush your teeth twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride containing toothpaste.
