Types of Dental Elevators
Dental elevators are the medical devices used during the dental procedures. There are few types of dental elevators which are used to remove the decayed tooth. In this article, there is a brief discussion on the dental elevator and the types of dental elevators.
It is a medical instrument hand-held with a small blade which is used for the tooth removal. It is used as a wedge for loosening the tooth along with its root from the bone ridge (alveolar process). They are generally used just prior to the dental forceps, that grasp a tooth out of the socket.
Types of dental elevators
There are three types of dental elevators which are listed below:
Straight dental elevator:
It is a medical instrument used usually prior to the dental forceps, which helps to grasp the tooth and removes it out of the socket. It is hand-held instrument with a small and a straight blade which is used as wedge to loosen the tooth and its roots right from the ridge of the bone. This is known as alveolar process.
Triangle dental elevator:
It is a hand-held instrument used along with other medical instruments during the tooth removal process. It consists of a triangle-shaped blade which is used to extract a broken root from its socket.
Pick dental elevator:
It is one of the hand-held instrument among the medical devices used for dental procedures. It resembles a pick for the removal of the roots from its socket. It may also be used as the lever for lifting the root from its socket.
