Natural Remedies for Oral Thrush in Adults

Oral thrush or oral candidiasis is a fungal infection and is caused by the fungus Candida albicans. The infection is characterized by patches in white color on the upper surface in the mouth, on the tongue and on the inner cheeks. If the infected is left untreated, it may spread to other parts of the body such as throat, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, etc. One can use natural remedies for oral thrush to  treat the condition effectively.

Natural remedies for oral thrush in adults

  • Tea tree oil:

    It is an essential oil which acts effectively as a mouthwash. Add few drops of any essential oil 9like tea tree oil) into a glass of water. Mix the water well and use the solution to gargle twice daily until the symptoms subside.

  • Garlic:

    it is a natural antibiotic and a natural anti-fungal. It inhibits the microbial growth (especially the fungal growth) without affecting the immune system.

  • Plain yogurt:

    It contains good bacteria which also help to inhibit the fungal growth. One should include pain yogurt (without sugar) in the diet, as it helps to fight against other micro flora in the body. Including plain yogurt in an infected person’s diet helps to speedup their recovery from the oral infection.

  • Salt:

    Prepare a mouthwash by adding ½ teaspoon of common salt in a cup of lukewarm water. Dissolve the salt in water and use this solution as a mouthwash to gargle or to swish in the mouth and later spit it out.

  • Cider vinegar:

    Prepare a mouthwash by using cider vinegar, a pinch of common salt and lukewarm water. Gargle with this solution and swish in every corner of the mouth and spit it out.

  • Grapefruit seed extract:

    It is a potent fungicide which effectively treats oral thrush. In one ounce of distilled or lukewarm water add about 10 to 15 drops of grapefruit seed extract, mix well and swab the solution in your mouth using a cotton dab. Swab the solution in your mouth once for every hour.

  • Baking soda:

    In a glass of water add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and mix well. Use this solution to gargle.

These are a few natural remedies for oral thrush in adults, one can use them as they treat the oral infection effectively.
