What are the general cosmetic dentistry treatments?

General cosmetic dentistry treatments

  • Tooth bleaching or whitening:

    This is the most general cosmetic dentistry procedure. There are many teeth whitening products available in the market, including the counter products. However, dentist-supervised treatments are only recommended for whitening the discolored teeth.

  • Enamel shaping:

    It removes a part of the enamel to improve the overall tooth appearance. It can also be used for the correction of a very small chip. Tooth enamel which is removed is irreplaceable and sometimes it can expose dentin. It is also referred to as odontoplasty, enameloplasty, recontouring, slenderizing, stripping and reshaping.

  • Contouring:

    It is also referred to as tooth reshaping, it is one among the few instant treatments which are now available with cosmetic dentistry. It is used to correct chipped teeth, crooked teeth, cracked teeth and even overlapping of the teeth, within one session.

  • Bonding:

    In this process, a dental composite material (which is an enamel-like) is applied on the tooth’s surface, which is later sculpted in a correct shape, hardened and polished.

  • Dental bridges:

    These are the false teeth, which is also referred to as pontics. They are placed and fused between the 2 porcelain crowns to refill the area which is left due to a missing tooth. It is used only to replace the lost or missing teeth.

  • Veneers:

    These are ultra-thin, custom -made laminates which are made of porcelain and are directly bonded to the teeth. Veneers are used as an option to close the gaps and/or disguising discolored tooth or teeth, which aren’t responding to whitening procedures.

  • Gum lift:

    It is a procedure of cosmetic dental treatment, that helps to raise and sculpt the gum line.This procedure helps to create the teeth appearance by reshaping the tissue or underlying bones.
